Muslims cannot afford to remain ignorant of the proper method of performing Wudu, as it is a prerequisite for prayer. Without Wudu, prayer is not valid. In this article, we will guide you through the correct steps of Wudu as narrated by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Additionally, we will explore the virtues of Wudu and introduce the courses and lessons offered by Quran Moddaker Academy for learning the Holy Quran, Arabic language, sound creed, and Islamic studies, which are essential for every Muslim.
1. Intention (Niyyah): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Actions are judged by intentions.”
2. Saying Bismillah (In the Name of Allah): The one performing Wudu should begin with the Bismillah, pronouncing it with their tongue, except when in a place for answering the call of nature. Scholars have permitted saying it in the heart only, but it is recommended not to omit it, as it does not nullify Wudu.
3. Washing the Hands: It is a Sunnah to wash the hands up to the wrists, as narrated by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In the description of the Prophet’s Wudu, it is mentioned that he washed his hands three times.
4. Rinsing the Mouth: This is done by taking water into the mouth and swishing it around. It is recommended to repeat this three times during Wudu. In the description of the Prophet’s Wudu, it is mentioned that he rinsed his mouth and sniffed water into his nose, then blew it out, and then washed his face three times.
5. Sniffing Water into the Nose (Istinja): This involves sniffing water into the nose and blowing it out while performing Wudu. It is mentioned in the description of the Prophet’s Wudu that he rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose, blew it out, and then washed his face three times.
6. Washing the Face: The face should be washed from the hairline to the bottom of the chin and from ear to ear. It is recommended to wash the face three times. In the description of the Prophet’s Wudu, it is mentioned that he rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose, blew it out, and then washed his face three times.
7. Washing the Arms: The one performing Wudu should wash their arms up to the elbows, washing each arm three times. It is mentioned in the description of the Prophet’s Wudu that he washed his right hand up to the elbow three times, then washed his left hand the same way.
8. Wiping the Head and Ears.
9. Washing the Feet: The feet should be washed up to the ankles, washing each foot three times. It is mentioned in the description of the Prophet’s Wudu that he washed his right foot up to the ankle three times, then washed his left foot the same way.
10. Supplication after Wudu: It is narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever performs Wudu by observing all its manners, and then says, ‘Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluhu, Allahumma jalni minat-tawwabina waj’alni minal-mutatahhirin,’ the eight doors of Paradise will be opened for them, and they may enter through any door they wish.”

After discussing the steps of Wudu, let us briefly explore the virtues of Wudu:
Secondly: The Virtues of Wudu (ablution):
1. Wudu brings purification and cleanliness, and purification and cleanliness are a means for a Muslim to attain the love of Allah Almighty. Allah says in the Quran, (إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِينَ وَيُحِبُّ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ) . سورة البقرة (222) .
Allâh loves those who turn unto Him in repentance and loves those who purify themselves (by taking a bath and cleaning and washing thoroughly their private parts, bodies, for their prayers)
.” (Quran 2:222)
2. Wudu is a means to enter Paradise, as mentioned in the hadith narrated by Uqbah ibn Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “No Muslim performs ablution perfectly and then stands for prayer, facing the qiblah and concentrating on it, except that Paradise becomes obligatory for him.” Additionally, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever among you performs ablution, then says, ‘I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is the servant and messenger of Allah,’ the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him, and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes.”
3. Wudu is a means to have sins erased, elevate ranks, and this is indicated by what Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Shall I not tell you about something by which Allah erases sins and elevates ranks?” They said, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah.” He said, “Performing ablution in an excellent manner despite difficult circumstances, taking many steps to the mosque, and waiting for the next prayer after performing one. That is the Ribat (post of a warrior) for you.”
4. Wudu is a means to have supplications answered. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “There is no Muslim who stays up during the night remembering Allah and then asks Allah for good in this life and the Hereafter, except that Allah will give it to him.”
These are some of the virtues of wudu, including the love of Allah, entering Paradise, elevating ranks, erasing sins, and having supplications answered.
